Support Services Specialist

The Support Services Specialist will report directly to the Support Services Manager and be part of a small but mighty team that helps lower income and formerly homeless people improve and advance their economic security and general well-being on Treasure Island. This position will support our signature Construction Training Program, Job Broker Program, Annual Tax Site and weekly Food Pantry. It’s an exciting time to join our team as the island’s developments progresses. Our model includes providing financial education & services along with employment services to provide long-lasting economic security and advancement.
We are seeking a candidate who has experience assisting lower-income people to reach their employment and financial objectives. The ideal candidate is motivated to help others find quality employment, assist them in removing barriers to economic security while working in a community environment. TITLE: Support Services Specialist
This is a full-time, exempt position with a work location on Treasure Island (San Francisco).
ACCOUNTABILITY: The Support Services Specialist reports to the Support Services Manager.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Career Counseling: provide one-on-one job counseling/coaching for construction and non-construction permanent employment – which includes job search, job referral/placement, resume development & interviewing skills. Barrier removal experience is a must, such as addressing housing insecurity, transportation challenges, lack of GED/CDL and child care.
Construction Training Program Support: Training is provided 3 times per year, 6 weeks each cohort. Assist with resumes, mock interviews, logistics, and general coordination as needed.
Job Broker System Assistance: provide job seeker screening & referral services for island employers and contractors year-round to fill job vacancies in a timely manner.
Tax site Support: provide general admin/reception support for free Tax Site operated from Feb-April 15th.
Outreach & Recruitment: conduct weekly client orientations; employment services presentations to community partners; initiate outreach efforts; participate in various community and public outreach & recruitment activities.
Data entry: responsible for entering client enrollment, client services, and client progress data in Salesforce system as well as client services/data entry into MOHCD; responsible for entering employer job announcements and disseminating job posting information to community partners and 30, 60 and 90 retention of placed clients in Salesforce database.
Support Financial Services: Assist at annual free tax site as greeter & scheduler; support other financial services provided by the Manger and consultants.
Support Weekly Food Pantry: Pantry operates on Tuesdays and this position will serve as back up support for pantry operations.
Skills Requirements. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The knowledge, and skills required to perform the above mentioned duties are:
Workforce Experience: must have at least 3 years prior work experience as an employment or career counselor with people who have barriers to employment such as including working with the following populations: re-entry populations, individuals with limited job history, homelessness, limited education, lack of GED/CDL.
Barrier Removal Support: Providing resource connections to address barriers such as a lack of CDL, GED or childcare.
Communication skills: must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Bi Lingual Spanish is highly desired.
Computer Proficiency: knowledge and prior experience with Salesforce is highly desired. If not, the ability to learn and become proficient with Salesforce within 3 months introductory period is required. Proficiency with word processing, excel, outlook, and power point is a must.
Financial Literacy: knowledge of financial literacy programming that supports economic stability is a plus.
Support Services: Knowledge of San Francisco supportive services a plus.
SALARY RANGE: $58,000 - $62,000/yr. depending on experience.
This position includes medical/dental after a 90 day probation period.
