Building a Thriving Community

San Francisco’s Treasure Island was home to a United State Naval Base until its closure in 1997. And that’s when the vision to transform the island into a new neighborhood was born.

The development of a new, inclusive community is well underway, and will include new below market rate and market rate housing, transportation connections, communal parks and open spaces, and public art.

Throughout this process, One Treasure Island has been amplifying the voices of those central to its mission: low-income and formerly unhoused island residents. Because of intentional inclusion throughout the development planning process, the new resulting community is one that will be equitable, inclusive, and thriving.

Development Highlights

Housing

  • 8,000 units of housing, including 2,173 below market rate units (27%)

Open Space

  • 290 Acres of publicly-owned and maintained open spaces, including natural areas, parks, community spaces, urban farm, campgrounds, multi-use sports fields, and walking/biking paths

Transportation

  • New Ferry terminal with service to San Francisco

  • New AC Transit bus service to the East Bay

  • Expanded Muni bus service to San Francisco

  • On-Island shuttles

Community Facilities

  • New SFUSD Public School

  • New combined police/fire station for SFPD and SFFD

  • New community and recreation center
